Motorcycle diaries

The screeching wheels, somersaults, wheelies, stoppies and burnouts are creating a wild buzz on the Internet. All the biking stunts you ever dreamt of are the hottest hits on the world wide web. It is the BMW Motorrad page on Facebook and You Tube that is creating ripples across the virtual world. With over 61,000 channel views and a traffic of about over 7 lakh fans, BMW Motorrad is definitely a chartbuster on the internet.
A popular viral video doing the rounds is Chris Pfeiffer’s (CP’s) 2011 India Tour. The World Freestyle Biking Champion does a lot more than just his bike stunts. From hunting Ilish (Hilsa) fish in a crowded Kolkata market to tying a turban in Jaipur, making tandoori roti in Chandigarh to exploring the paranthewali galli in Delhi, no job seems to be tough for the hardcore stuntman!
And you finally get to see the God of freestyle biking performing at stadiums and grounds packed with his die hard fans. This particular video has recorded over 7 lakh hits and the number keeps soaring with at least 60,000 visitors everyday. The video has other bloggers initiating discussion forums and photoblogs that showcase CP’s stuntmania. Not just one video, the BMW Motorrad page gives all the information, news and scoops from the biking world as well. Members keep posting information about various biking trails, upload pictures and there is always the hottest topic of discussion — news about the latest bikes launched in India. “The one thing that grabs my attention on the page is an update about a new bike and its launch in India. It is very encouraging to know that bikes, which were a fantasy earlier are now available in my own country,” says Paroma Roy, a biker and BMW Motorrad fan.
The page is a platform for bikers to discuss bikes and get their queries answered directly by the company. “Mostly, there are pictures of owners with their bikes, but sometimes queries about bikes are answered. It feels great to be one among world bikers,” says student Fareed Ahmed.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
