Movies that men love

From Raging Bull to Rocky and The Fighter, there is something about sports movies that draws guys of all ages together. The latest is Warrior, a film about boxing.
“It draws you in and makes you believe you are part of it,” says independent film maker Shreyas Kadam. “What better way to spend an evening with buddies,” he adds.
Musician Bryden Lewis of the band Slain s a big fan of the Rocky series. “It has to be action oriented to keep the guys involved. If it’s a game film, then there will be teams and rooting for our favourites.”
Bryden also rates The Story of Anvil based on the heavy metal band Anvil among his favourites. The vocalist and drummer of this doomed band were part of the same football team and stuck together hoping to make it big someday. “It’s the most heart wrenching film that combines music, games and camaraderie,” says the guitarist.
For designer Manoviraj Khosla nothing beats the excitement of the war and games film Troy to bond with the boys. “It is fabulously made and keeps us glued every time,” he says. Who can forget the fight sequences between Achilles and Hector or the superb visual effects that just add to the watchability of this flick.
Quiz master and brain behind Kaun Banega Crorepati Adittya Nath Mubayi has a host of sports flicks that he rates as his favourites. “Any Given Sunday, Remember the Titans, Million Dollar Baby are a great compelling watch with my mates and of course Lagaan in the Hindi film category,” he states.
Actor Vinay Jain also rates Lagaan as his favourite. “It is a complete entertainer with tremendous repeat value,” he says adding, “Invictus, the recent Matt Damon rugby film is another that I found extremely inspiring.”
With so many sports flicks to choose from, no wonder then that the boys are spoilt for choice when it comes to a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
