Mrs Obama steals the show, again
Before Barack Obama’s inaugural address for his second terms as US president, there were questions aplenty — about what his wife and the US’ First Lady Michelle would wear for the inaugural party. And despite another celebrity controversy threatening to overshadow the event — pop star Beyonce lip-syncing to the national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, instead of performing it live — Michelle managed to hold her own with her style statement.
Sporting a flaming red gown, the First Lady was a true showstopper, doing credit to this Jason Wu design. Incidentally, she had chosen a Jason Wu gown for Obama’s inaugural bash the first time too, making Jason’s work an instant hit. Much like Kate Middleton, everything Mrs Obama wears also becomes an instant style statement: A Tracy Reese dress she wore last year sold out in hours, while J. Crew pieces she has sported have been known to fly off the shelves. Small wonder then, that much attention is paid to her sartorial statements.
And she hasn’t disappointed so far. Like Kate, Michelle has made it a point to mix and match and coordinates regular wear with couture. The best part about her style? She gets it spot on, each time.
