Music dates politics

Three contestants of the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa met a few parliamentarians at the Constitution Club of India in the capital recently.
Rajeev Shukla, secretary, All India Congress Committee, showed contestants the well-built rooms of the club, where parliamentarians, even if they are from different political parties, meet on a regular basis to participate in fun activities like gymming or billiards.
However, what left contestants fascinated was the interesting life of politicians. Says Abhishek Mukherjee, a contestant from Bokaro, who was surprised to see politicians joking with each other. And it was even more surprising for the 23-year-old to know that they spend a good amount of time on fitness and remaining healthy. “I have always seen the serious side of these politicians on television making announcements on important issues or taking potshots at other politicians. It was great to know the hidden side of their personality. It’s really different from what I imagined,” he said.
And it was quite a pleasant revelation for these contestants when Member of Parliament and BJP spokesperson, Prakash Javadekar said that health comes before everything else and he spends time in gym everyday to make sure he is in good shape.
Politicians like Kalikesh Singh Deo and Anurag Thakur, also talked about their fitness regime.
But it was not only fitness that kept the conversation warm and friendly. Meeting contestants of a music reality show made parliamentarians so happy that they also hummed a few lines of their favourite songs. Rini Chandra, another contestant of the show was delighted to know that Anurag, who follows the show regularly, is quite impressed by her.
Talking about his liking for such shows, and the spirited contestants, Anurag said, “I like these shows because one gets to learn a lot of things. The contestants of these shows experience various ups and downs and learn that life is all about being calm in a stressed situation. Today, we need such youngsters who have experienced life and are good at dealing with diverse situations.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
