Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” Such is the power of music, acclaimed by Jimi Hendrix.

Well, Delhi-based band Big Bang Blues seems to be really inspired by his words, as they recently came together to perform at a pro-bono show in the capital for the NGO Friendicoes SECA (Society for Eradication of Cruelty to Animals).
The event was an initiative of band member Sushant Thakur who informed, “Money is tangible, but the main motive behind this show was to spread the message that apart from humans, animals also deserve to be taken care of. People need to be responsible and committed towards their welfare too.” Sushant was delighted that the funds from the gig will be donated to build a horse and a donkey shelter in the premises where the NGO has been granted a plot and will be named after their band as recognition of their efforts.
Speaking about their performance on the show, band’s lead vocalist Ipshita Roy says, “We composed the songs ourselves and have a list of them which we sing at every gig. From the response, it was apparent that not only the audience, but the organisers too were moved by our music.”
The band members looked quite enthusiastic and proud being socially responsible citizens. Ipshita, who is personally associated with an NGO that works for the restoration of Sufi music, clarified, “We don’t want to restrict ourselves to one particular cause. Our strength is to sensitise people through our music, and we will continue to do so in future. This is just the beginning.” Big Bang Blues is currently working on their debut album and plan to release it in August-September.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
