‘My dad’s view matters a lot’
Music is a natural career choice for Siddharth Mahadevan, 20, who is making his playback singing debut with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The elder son of talented singer Shankar Mahadevan was only waiting for the day to come.
“I am already into music and have sung a song for Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s project for Green Peace Organisation. He had always been very supportive. And suddenly one day I got a call from my father saying ‘come to the studio, we have to try out your voice’,” shares Siddharth.
A trained singer, who took training in Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, Siddharth was always inclined towards music. “I had been in and around music since childhood, thanks to my father. I had been singing since the age of three and did some vocal percussion as well. Not that my father forced me to take up music, but I was naturally drawn towards it. Music is something I enjoy and I guess it’s genetic,” says Siddharth, who is completing his Mass Media course from BMM College, Mumbai.
Siddharth along with cousin Soumil Shringarpure composed music for Marathi films including Swapna Tujhe Ni Mazhe and Saata Lota besides doing a piece of background score for Deepa Mehta’s Midnight Children. “We had been making music for some time now and composed jingles and songs for radio. At present we are working on two films and I am singing a duet with Rahul Ram for D Day. There are a couple of other projects and private albums as well,” he says.
Talking about his dad, Siddharth says, “He is undoubtedly the best singer, my hero, inspiration and mentor. Whenever we compose a song or a jingle, we take his view. If my father says it is not up to the mark, no matter how much anyone else praises the song, I know it is a bad composition. His approval matters a lot to me,” says Siddharth,
