‘My dogs mean the world to me’

‘My dogs mean the world to me’
Genelia D’ Souza
My dogs mean the world to me. I have a Cocker Spaniel and a Jack Rusell Terrier. Pepper is the Jack Rusell and Lyka is a spaniel. Every time I get a break I rejuvenate either by traveling, or I just spend time with the two dogs. Being with my dogs completely recharges me.
I feel dogs are better than humans in so many ways. My dogs are my best friends. I love to see them enjoying the attention they get when I am around. Since I am away for most of the time, busy with shoots, I can feel that they yearn for some quality time with me — in my space. I miss them too when I am away, and make sure that I spend enough time with them when I am home.
As far as I am concerned, I feel it’s true that dogs are man’s best friends. Whenever I feel low or when I don’t feel like being around people — considering the stress levels that my job entails, which is not an uncommon thing for an actor — I end up spending time with these puppies.
Pepper and Lyka have become a significant part of my life. Even when I am abroad shooting, I Skype with them or I speak to them over the phone when I call home.
They go berserk with excitement when they see me on the comp or when they hear my voice. The kind of love they shower on me is priceless and all they expect in return is some attention.
I’ve also had them visit me on the sets. They always get along so well with everyone! I’ll always remember and treasure the day I got both my dogs! They are some of the best moments of my life.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
