‘Nail’ that look

One of the first things that people notice about you is your nails. And well-groomed nails go a long way in making that great first impression. Make-up guru Reema Sablok who has worked with fashionistas such as Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta gives gyaan on the nail trends that are making waves:

Nail shades like khaki, grey, dark brown and greige (combination of grey and beige) are the new pink, coral, red and mauve
The women today are more aware and in touch with the fashion scenario internationally. Clichéd shades like pinks and reds are no more the only colours they wear. Instead, they choose to use greys, khakis and greige as they go well with most clothes. Bright colours like turquoise blue, metallic purple, orange and black are some other unusual shades which are popular.

A colour for every skin tone
Dark brown nail colour looks best on a fair complexion. Khaki and greige go well with a wheatish complexion, and beige suit those with a dusky complexion.

From day to the evening look
These new colours are subtle. They project a clean and classy look when worn. If you want to make a statement at work without overdoing it, these shades are what you should go for! The best part is that they are versatile and can also be worn to a party as well, if dressed up with some chic nail art.

Hot stuff in the nail world
Flowers, stars, twinkles and intricate designs have been done to death and a thing of the past. Today it is all about contemporary! So, clean and sleek designs are in and they give you that edge when it comes to nail art.

Innovations galore
Zipper nails, real gold and silver-flaked nails and bejewelled nail extensions from Japan are creating a lot of buzz.

Talking tools
Nail glue, a decent variety of nail polish colours, tweezers, assorted nail brushes, nail jewels and embellishments, nail art pens, nail design stencils and small dishes for mixing colors are nail tools you can invest in. These are the basic tools you would require for nail art.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
