Nailing the art

From simple French manicures to outlandish nail art in 3D, this trend is seeing a lot of takers. Nina Bual, who heads Spa.ce nails the trend in nail art with crystallised installation, abstract art besides eclectic and animal prints.
Nail art is by no means a nouvelle trend. Enhancing the beauty of the female hand actually started right here in India 5,000 years ago with women adorning their hands with intricate henna art. Nail art has evolved since then to new levels in the quest for the most beautiful and unique hands. Nail art has seen some dramatic fan frenzy with biggies like Fergie, Rihanna and the Kardarshians clan sporting dramatic and often bizarre nails. While reality often stops us from going with outlandish nail extensions, there’s no reason for us to go on with our naïve nails and not bend towards individual signature styles.
Juicy nails
This season is all about, don’t-be-scared-to-play-with-colour. Bold shades continue to be in. Last years introductions of ochre, black and navy blue continue to be in vogue. You will also be seeing more neutral blends with light blues, sea greens and shades of gray making a debut this season. Floral designs have made a silent exit, making way for more asymmetric and geometric designs, influenced by Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Maintain a versatile vibe with some vibrant hues. You can also go with some gem encrusting or crystal studded art.
Go French
Another new trend is customising the classic French manicure. Lady Gaga’s French manicure at the Brit awards was beautifully topped with bow ties to make the manicure look like a black tie dress code. Other variations of the French manicure, instead of just pink nails with the traditional white tips are black French manicure design, cute pink French manicure design and even some fancy ones on the same base.
Feeling feline
Animal prints are the ultimate too-cool-to-miss with zebra, leopard and giraffe prints, that can serve as the perfect accessory to dress up your nails with. Last but not the least with sun kissed hands, don’t shy away from bloodshot red, which will always remain a classic choice.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
