Naomi decks up as the desi girl
It was a dream come true for fashion designer Manav Gangwani, when British supermodel Naomi Campbell and her Russian boyfriend Vladislav Doronin decided to don his creation for the big bash in Jodhpur. The couple is in India to celebrate Doronin’s 50th birthday.
Manav says that Naomi carried off his lehenga-choli in pink and purple very elegantly. She paired it with a traditional mang tikka and gold bracelet. He said, “The dress is from my next collection. As always, I have added lots of bling and played with bright colours. When Naomi first wore the dress, I was stunned to see her. I have not seen anyone carrying a lehenga-choli so effortlessly. I think she looked lovely in Indian avatar.”
The city-based designer said that he always wanted to design for her. “Since my college days, I always wondered how Naomi would look wearing my creation,” says Manav.
He is equally excited about designing a sherwani for Doronin. “I have used a 150-year-old purple coloured brocade from Banaras for his sherwani,” he adds.
Talking about the West opening up to and welcoming Indian fashion, he says, “Our culture is so vibrant that it is attracting worldwide attention. The rich embroidery and colours are our USP,” he wraps up.
