Never without my daughter
This mother-daughter duo has proved to be a powerhouse when it comes to giving direction to the design mindset in India.
Entrepreneur, art aficionado and Padma Shri Rajshree Pathy and her daughter, artist and graphic designer Aishwarya Pathy, are fresh off the success of organising the second India Design Forum — a two-day global design conclave that saw international icons like Christian Louboutin and Anouska Hempel come down to Mumbai, and share their insights. With the tag line “Design Matters”, the conclave tried to do just that, with discussions featuring on how good design solutions could put India firmly on the route to success.
“Administration is always the toughest yet the most important role in an event of this magnitude,” Aishwarya admitted to us, in the midst of all the preparations for IDF.
Aishwarya, a Wheaton College graduate, shares more than a passion for design with her mother. Aishwarya also helps Rajshree run the Coimbatore Centre for Contemporary Art, and calls working with her mother a “positive challenge”: “My mother is such a visionary and I’m always learning from her. I get my design sensibility from her, I’ve learnt my organisational skills from her and we share the same goals and visions. We are very different yet we complement each other.”
