New mantra in bridal sutra
The wedding season is on and brides are spoilt for choice. Bringing the hues of tradition along with the nuances of modernity is another ongoing wedding exhibition “Celebrating Vivaha 2013” to make weddings a majestic and memorable experience.
Some of the prominent fashion designers and names participating in the exhibition are Sagrika Mittal Goyal, Amit Arora, Manuu Mamta, Mayyur R Girotra, Parul and Ashie, Sionnah, Zari, Shreenath Diamond and Shri Hari.
Talking about her collection fashion designer Sagrika Mittal says brides need to move away from clichéd colours like red and magenta and experiment with lighter hues of the same family like pink and peach. “These colours complement the Indian skin tone well. Also, my collection is inspired by the mythological nymph Lotis, who was the beautiful daughter of Neptune, the god of water and the sea. The lotus motif has been generously used in the collection. Pink, peach, rose are the dominant colours in this line. They are contrasted with sea green,” adds Sagrika.
Lehengas and floor-length anarkalis dominate the collection of fashion designer Mayyur R. Girotra. He has made extensive use of brocades, velvet, silk and other luxurious fabrics. Giving a word of caution against going for over the top bridal look, Mayyur says, “You do not want to look at your wedding album 15 years later and shriek in horror. The idea is to enhance your look and not become someone unrecognisable. Whether it is your clothes or your makeup, keep it simple. While the lehenga should be ornate and detailed, the choli should be minimalistic with little detailing. This will highlight the bridal jewellery set on the neck and not take the attention away from the bride’s face. Also, every little detail like the nails, heels etc should be paid attention to because in India brides are scrutinised from head to toe,” adds Mayyur.
Brides should not get weighed down by their outfits, agrees designer Shikha Bhandari from Sionaah. She insists that the ensemble should rather look fun and playful. “We have tried to create the right amount of tradition with a dose of bling that brides need. It is full of bright colours with generous use of sequins, zari and stone work. The entire collection is very eclectic and wearable,” adds Shikha.
Taking the exhibition to international level, CEO of Celebrating Vivaha, Tarun Ssarda says, “This is the hot wedding season and the exhibition is an attempt to test the wedding markets of the country.”
The exhibition is on till August 25, from 11 am to 7 pm, at Hotel Ashoka, 50 B Chanakyapuri
