Newly weds’biryani tales

For a new bride, the first Eid after marriage is very special — especially if she has no experience of celebrating it before. Amrita Arora, married to Shakeel Ladak says, “My first Eid after marriage was last year and it turned even more memorable as I was pregnant. So, my mum-in-law was extra careful about what I eat and made sure I wasn’t doing much work. My entire family and in-laws made me feel special and we all gathered together to have a great time. But this one’s going to be even better, since it’s my first Eid as a mom and our son Azaan will witness these festivities. I have even designed identical Pathani suits for him and his father, even though he’s only a few months old. And with Malaika and Arbaaz’s first production Dabangg releasing the same day, it will be time for double celebration.”
Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia, who is married to Farhan Azmi, says that she has always loved festivals and Eid is special. “While I did keep rozas last year, I couldn’t keep them as regularly this time. But the food on Eid is simply to die for. As I usually keep off carbs, Eid is one day I indulge in completely as both Farhan and I simply love biryani. And the afternoon nap that follows is another added advantage,” she adds.
Seema Khan, married to Iqbal Khan, has a different story to tell. She says that though they have been celebrating Eid since they were dating, after getting married it has got a charm of its own. “I remember the first time I cooked kebabs and sheer qorma for the family, Iqbal really loved it. Since then, I have been making them every year,” she adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
