No clicks for glam babies

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently said that she does not want her daughter Aaradhya to get hassled. Her instinct is to protect her daughter from the prying eyes of media and fans. But Aishwarya is not alone to think that her daughter is too small and should be protected from the glaring eyes of media. Many celebrities, socialites, and page 3 regulars work hard to keep their kids away from the spotlight.
Actress and TV presenter Archana Puran Singh says that media is very aggressive these days and the chances of its negative impact on children are very high. “I have been in the industry for about three decades and still I get intimidated by media. And it is much harder for children,” says Archana, who adds that to keep them at a safe distance from the glamorous world she does not even allow them frequent visits on the sets.
Archana wants her kids to know that they have normal parents, so does Tanisha Mohan, who wants her kids to earn their right to fame. “They need to know that there is a time for everything and one should it. They need to be someone in life. As for now, there are more important things, like studies that they should focus on,” adds Tanisha.
The biggest compliment for Tanisha got is people telling her that her children do not behave like celebrity kids, she says.
Keeping children grounded and humble like a non-celebrity child is essential to give them a normal childhood, insists model Amanpreet Wahi. “I want my daughter to enjoy her life but she should not take anything for granted. She should have her values in place,” says Amanpreet Wahi, who has a six months old daughter.
Fashion and interior designer Sabina Singh agrees that her daughter would be expected to be a part of the glamorous world and she doesn’t want to shield her from media too much. “But all I want is to give her a secure and safe childhood. I would take her out once in a while to the places meant for kids of her age but I won’t bring her to the social parties for adults with me,” she adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
