No shortcut to a perfect bikini body

Even though gorgeous Deepika Padukone is sporting a red hot bikini in her upcoming film, Cocktail, but the actor thinks that the Indian body type is not suited for a bikini. In a recent interview, she said that in order to get a bikini body, a strict workout regime is needed.

Deepika was not wrong as fitness experts agree with her comment. Fitness trainer Satyajeet Chourasia who has worked with Esha Deol and Rani Mukerji, says that to get a body that can carry off a bikini one needs to work really hard. “Deepika is blessed with a very good physique. She is capable of wearing a bikini without working too hard on her body. But other Indian bodies are not up to the mark to transform and change into bikini bodies. It takes a lot of time and effort to get a body that looks good in a bikini. Almost two-three hours of workout and a strict diet is needed everyday for almost six months to get into shape,” he says.
Experts think that only a person already into a fitness regime can work towards a bikini body.
“You need to be in good physical shape to work towards a bikini body. And then, you need to follow a combination of good diet and exercise. Working out everyday between functional training, pilates and cardio is very important. And you needs to be very regimented with food — lots of protein, low carbs and variety of fruits and vegetable,” says fitness expert Yasmin Haz, who worked with Kareena Kapoor.
However, nutritionist turned author Pooja Makhija has a different opinion. She thinks that if one understands food and exactly what he or she is eating, achieving a bikini body is just a matter of time. “Diet and exercise go hand-in-hand to achieve this. This cannot be an overnight process and you need effort, patience and perseverance to achieve this. There is no quick-fix to a bikini body but slow gradual fat loss, which is achieved through eating small, regular and frequent meals and cutting out all calorie-laden excessive sugar or fat preparations completely,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
