Not a hair raising issue
That greasy and sticky hair coupled with the muggy atmosphere makes you want to hate your hair at times. And one wonders how do the celebs manage to maintain an impeccable hairstyle through the monsoons. While a lot of people complain about the dull look, hairstylists maintain that it’s no big deal to sport an attractive hairstyle during the most arduous season of the year.
Celebrated hairstylist Javed Habib equates monsoon with stickiness. “Monsoon means a lot of sweat and unmanageable hair which is really not the issue if one learns to wash one’s hair everyday. It’s a myth that hair can’t be shampooed everyday.” Some believe the solution lies in the products one chooses. Like Sapna Bhavnani who advocates avoiding greasy serums and gels since they are capable of causing added dandruff in this season. “If you must wash your hair everyday then use an everyday mild shampoo so you don’t end up with dry hair and of course don’t forget to use a good conditioner,” says Sapna. She further suggests that people with curly hair use a leave-in conditioner to prevent frizz.
Experts cite humidity and the salty water as prime areas of worry. Renowned hair hairstylist Dorris Godambe is of the opinion that it is important to wash and clean your scalp everyday. “People with long hair must wash it at least three times a week whereas others should wash it everyday. Also one must take care to not apply oil to the scalp as it leads to more stickiness,” says Dorris.
Seconds Maria Goretti who is always spotted sporting gorgeous hair. Attributing it to natural texture she says, “I have straight hair which is easy to manage and I maintain a healthy diet and stay in a positive frame of mind to feel good and of course washing it everyday is a must,” says Maria.
Actress Ayesha Takia, who’s often admired for her long tresses does all it takes to maintain them. “I am obsessed with long hair and it is easily spoilt so I have to be careful with it all the time,” she says.
Layers and steps with fringes seem to be the top trends this monsoon. “High ponytail works well and layers are also in,” suggests Dorris, who also believes that new hairstyles add that extra bounce to the hair, which tends to grow dry, if left to grow for too long a time.
