Not a palace, it is an office
Harbin Pharmaceuti-cal Group, a state-owned Chinese drug company came under fire after it decided to show off its opulent office on the Net.
The building looks more like a gaudy palace, than an office as it is done up in yellow gold and marble. Once you enter the lobby you are greeted by massive marble pillars and a triple-tiered crystal chandelier which hangs from a gold plated ceiling. An indoor terrace is said to resemble a concert hall! The meeting rooms come with expensive Chinese furniture in mahogany.
It has been reported that the cost of constructing the building and then doing up its interiors was around $15 million.
Sadly for the company, very few people appreciated its grand building. After facing a lot of criticism, the pictures have been removed from the website and the company now claims these pictures were of a wood-block-printing art museum located in the same building at the company’s headquarters!
But Harbin is not the only government office in China to bling out its offices. It was reported that the local government in Anhui province came under intense criticism after it revealed its plans of building a lavish complex which would cover 45 acres!
