Nothing that Rajini‘can’t’

There seems to be nothing that Rajini can’t do! His latest film Enthiran sees him play a double role — that of a genius scientist Vaseegaran and a super intelligent robot, Chitti. But the hype around the film has yet again pumped up the fictitious jokes on the superstar, which are a huge hit on the Internet. Try these... Rajinikanth has counted to infinity, twice. He can delete the Recycle Bin. He knows Victoria’s secret.

One of the reasons for Rajini’s huge success is his style, which according to many is unique and funny. Fans relate to the jokes on the star to his on-screen persona. His ability to do the physically impossible thing with a straight face while saying ‘Mind It’ makes audiences stare in awe and laugh aloud. “Rajini’s films are so cheesy that you either love it or laugh about it,” says RJ Sriram Sullia. He adds, “Did you know Rajinikanth killed the Dead Sea!”
It’s a popular trend — when you read Rajini jokes on the Internet, you can’t help but watch his videos on YouTube, and before you know it, you are watching his films.
“Who is not a fan of Rajinikanth?” questions actor Vishaal Hegde light heartedly. His films according to Vishaal are unique in all aspects — style, story, sets, picturisation, “even the jokes on him are super cool,” he adds.
Rajini jokes attributing impossible feats to the action hero, have found their way through the word of mouth in college campuses, cafeterias and offices. “The jokes are a rib tickler,” say Bushra Shariff who manages the popular band The Bicycle Days. “Heroics in his movies are comic, more so are his jokes which are hilarious,” she adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
