‘Our fight is with Ram, not Aamir’
Palash Sen and his band Euphoria were busy with the shoot for their new album when they came across a familiar tune on a TV show. It was the chorus from Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate title song.
On closer hearing, Sen found it to be quite similar to their song from their album, Phir Dhoom in the year 2000.
Palash is ready for a long battle over the copyright with the composer of the song Ram Sampath.
Recently, Sen uploaded a small clip on Facebook where he compares the two tunes in question and justifies Euphoria’s claim. Issuing an official statement on a social networking site, Sen sais, “We are fighting for our copyright infringement with Ram Sampath, not the show.”
However, the musician is clear that he will not drag the actor into the controversy. Says Sen, “This has got nothing to do with Aamir Khan or the show. The copyright infringement involves the tune of the chorus of Ram’s song and not the words Satyamev Jayate.”
He adds, “Copyright is a serious issue and our country is the only country in the world where no stringent laws regarding copyright exist. Copyright is the respect that a musician and songwriter deserve from the system.”
Fans of Aamir Khan on social networking sites have alleged that the musician is trying to gain mileage. Sen defends, “This is not a court case yet. Only a notice has been sent for an amicable solution. We expect due credit for the original composition.”
While some musicians feel there should a mutual understanding between the composers. Dhruv Dhalla of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye fame, says, “In this world of creativity, you are bound to bump into similar notes that resemble other songs. However, you should have an understanding and inform the composer who has come up with the similar tune first. That helps build respect and admiration for each other.”
