Painting in blood is no big deal, says Ahmed
Ahmed Mohiuddin, 23, is known for his unconventional methods in getting his point across. To protest against the Delhi gang rape, the self-taught artist made a painting in his own blood to symbolise the pain that the victim had gone through. “I was a National Cadet Corp for the Indian Air Force in Class 11 and 12. We were taught basic first aid, including how to draw blood. I just used one syringe. I really wanted to showcase what I felt,” says Ahmed, whose forte lies in landscapes and colouring.
He has already sold 60 paintings and aims to open his own gallery. Ahmed’s first national award came in Class 7, for his painting at Fifth National Peace Conference, Vizag. He has also received an award from A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. “My parents were not excited about my interest in painting, but after seeing my work, they started encouraging me,” said Ahmed, a B.Tech graduate. He now plans to go abroad and get a degree in fine arts.
