Most rumour mills worked overtime about piggy chops’ liaisons with Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor and even Ranbir Kapoor but there was no grain in the husk. And the boys still seem keen to play, while the Punjabi lass is set to follow her parents’ choice. And in news flashed all across television, the message was loud and clear – the scorcher needed to be married to a north Indian guy, not into films and preferably from the same caste.
Vasugi Kailasam, a city youngster who is pursuing culture studies, says “Frankly, this sati savitri behaviour is appalling, everyone knows that Priyanka was dating Harman and Shahid.”
But surely the Chopra family must think that marrying an industry insider must have its advantages? Not necessarily says marriage counsellor B. Mala. “In the course of my work I have come across couples in the same profession and those in different work sectors. The problems are the same everywhere. The key factor to any kind of marriage is trust, understanding and a respect for the other’s profession,” advises the counsellor.
“This is a good thing,” says advocate and women’s right activist Janaki. “While an empowered woman like Priyanka Chopra should be able to make up her own mind about her future husband, youngsters will analyse Priyanka’s statement based on her exposure to life and experiences.”
