PG hunting for DU made easy
Comfortable accommodation today has become as coveted as a seat in Delhi University (DU). Being able to survive in a foreign environment is the biggest fear that haunts outstation students once they secure admission. To help newcomers find a suitable place to stay, a group of DU pass-outs has launched a website findyourpg.com that helps freshers get a bird’s eye view about available accommodation.
For the bunch of young entrepreneurs, who are outstation students themselves, starting a website was about putting their experience to some good use. Sukruti Gupta, 19, one of the website hosts, has been receiving visitors with exactly the same doubts and set of queries which bothered her when she first moved to DU three years ago. “All eight (website creators) of us have gone through the tedious task of hostel hunting. So we thought, why not put our knowledge to some good use with this website?” says this third year student from Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).
While registration is free on the three-week-old website, which is already becoming a hit among students, certain questions must be answered by students. “On registration, we ask for specific details like the budget and the kind of facilities required. We then try to match the specifications given by the students and put them through to a shortlist of PG owners in nearby areas,” informs Tariq Mustafa, 19, a DU student from Kerala, who looks at the marketing through social networking sites. For Sana Khan, 19, a third year student from Lucknow — who along with Sukruti handles incoming queries, the venture is a smart way to use technology. “The website without doubt has a huge reach. It’s also a cool way of keeping brokers at bay,” she says. “We have all invested about a year collecting data and information about all the PG accommodation in North Campus. This while managing our studies,” says Sana, adding that they have been getting calls from South Campus as well. Way to go!
