Pitbull leaves fans upset
Expectations lead to the biggest of disappointments. Perhaps music lovers in the capital are now used to frequent let-downs because every time somebody promises them a “rocking” show, all they get in return is major chaos. On Friday
night at Noida’s Quantum club, the much-hyped Pitbull India tour’s Delhi leg kicked off with technical glitches and prolonged delay. Fans and party hoppers, who gathered at the club to witness rapper Armando Christian Perez aka Pitbull’s performance, were unhappy with the arrangements at the venue.
The crowd started pouring in 9 pm onwards, and by midnight the roads leading to the Centerstage Mall in Noida were choc-a-bloc with traffic congestion. Many youngsters from colleges and schools bought tickets worth `4,000 and `8,000 (for VIP) to enjoy the concert. Aashriyam, Tanya and Sambhav, from Modern School Barakhamba Road, specially drove down to Noida and took permission from their parents till midnight as the show by Pitbull was scheduled for 11 pm. “We all came here because we love Pitbull’s songs and were hoping to have a good time. However, it is getting too late and the organisers are not even bothered,” said Tanya, who was waiting for the evening to start.
Socialite Thenny Mejia, who was also present for the concert, criticised the arrangements and said that Pitbull rocked, but the venue was bad. She says, “The club was not managed properly and the bar ran out of drinks. The concert started very late and it was not even for an hour. It is sad that the capital’s strict club rules are hurting the revenue and Delhi’s loss is Noida’s gain.”
After making the fans wait for more than three hours, Pitbull finally turned up at 1.30 am with his five-member band and apologised. He said, “I apologise for the delay and India is a beautiful country. I hope my fans who were waiting for so long have a good time tonight.”
The rapper belted out popular numbers like Give Me Everything Tonight, Let it Rain Over Me, for his fans and left the stage in half an hour.
According to an estimate around 1,800 to 2,000 people attended the Pitbull concert, informs Suruchi Dutta, owner of Quantum. She says, “It was the first performance of Pitbull in India, so the management adopted a lot of safety measures like fire exits for emergency, ambulances downstairs, PCRs etc. We had to increase the number of bouncers and there were about 85 added staff to control the crowd. The number of people who attended the concert were around 1,800 to 2,000, which was remarkable. Our club has a space for 2,500 people, but a lot of the space was covered by the extended stage and greenroom.”
