Powerpuff girls!
Red was the colour of the night. All eyes rested on fashion diva, Ritu Beri, sports star Saina Nehwal, entrepreneur Pia Singh and philanthropist Sara Pilot. The four women were recognised for their contribution to the diverse arenas and honoured by Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan.
Dressed dapper in his trademark black suit, King Khan, the brand ambassador of Tag Heuer, unveiled the latest Link Lady Collection at the Leela Palace hotel. Talking about the significance of women in the society, he said, “I feel extremely special for having been given an opportunity to honour women and appreciate their good work. Over the last few months, the entire nation has been depressed over the atrocities that women are facing in the country. In such depressing times, it is essential to recognise their efforts.”
After his serious note, the superstar added his dash of humour and said, “We simply need women to have men in the world! Interestingly, as most people say I have more female fans and I adore them for that.”
The actor even dedicated Bollywood songs to each of the awardees.
Sara Pilot, who was felicitated for her contribution to charitable causes through her organisation, The Centre for Equity and Inclusion, Cequin said, “Started about 4-5 years ago with my partner Lora Prabhu, our organisation has been working towards empowering women. It is a long road ahead and at times I feel frustrated seeing the condition of women in the country. But then we need to dust ourselves off and work towards nurturing women in our own special way.”
Fashion designer Ritu Beri said, “It is lovely to be recognised for my efforts and it has been a long journey. We have managed to make our mark in the couture world map.”
Slender beauty and director, DLF group, Pia Singh added, “I simply love to work and accomplish things. Luck and circumstances have also worked in my favour. But I stand here as a symbol and representative of my family, peers and colleagues, who equally deserve this honour.”
Decked up in a knee-length dress, badminton player, Saina Nehwal was visibly excited to meet SRK. Smiling from ear-to-ear, she said, “SRK is my favourite actor and I always wanted to meet him. A few years back, my father got an opportunity to meet him and I fought with him because I couldn’t. Today, I came to fulfill this wish of mine.”
On hearing this, Shah Rukh hugged her and blessed her for her future endeavours.
On a concluding note, SRK added, “The women standing here have all made major accomplishments in their fields. But I also like them for the way they carry themselves and have strong personalities. Women need to know that they are the most beautiful creations of Allah and that without them our universe would not be complete.”
