Pyjama pants are smoking haute

What could be a perfect amalgamation of style and comfort? Clue: Stella McCartney brought this inexpensive trend to fore. It’s the stylish version of pyjama pants or pajants. From international and desi designers to college-goers and party hoppers, pajants are everybody’s favourite. With pajants, you can actually leave the house in sleepy style. All you need is a little confidence and imagination. Designers like Nida Mahmood, Dev R Nil, Aneeth Arora, Wendell Rodricks among others have experimented with these floaty silhouette using appealing prints and edgy cuts.
Designer Urvashi Kaur says, “Pajants made their presence felt on the ramps around the world last year. Tyra Banks has supported the trend among other celebrities. What is interesting are the various interpretations of the pyjama pants. I personally prefer the more flared versions of the pajants. I have experimented with flared pyjama pants with drawstring and with ombré and tie-dye effect for my current SS-13 collection. Bold paisley print or even pleated georgettes or voiles create an impact and will make it stand out.”
Whereas designer Amit GT finds them cool in light colours. “They are comfortable and look good on almost all figure types. Celine followed by Olivier Thyskens started the trend of these broad legged pyjama pants in refined fabrics for a sophisticated sporty vibe. The trend was taken up by storm when almost all retailers start selling such broad-legged pants but it’s only now people have started calling them pajants. The trend is going strong which makes it a good buy,” says Amit.
Pajants are available at popular brands like Zara, Mango and at many designer outlets.
Prasansha Saha, design director at Aharin India says, “People are bored of denims and the regular bottoms. Pajants are smartly cut, look stylish and are very comfortable. You can experiment with patterns, prints, colours and fit. What I’ve noticed is that tropical prints are very in. Pair with some statement heels and a simple clutch and you’ve moved the nightwear to night out in an instant.”
A word of caution from Urvashi, “The trend is not suited to all body types and does accentuate the butt a little bit. It also doesn’t give a slimming effect especially if you are short and slightly big, so be careful while shopping for pajants.”
