Ratan to hunt for Mr Right on telly

She’s simple and has an earthy charm. And she’s looking for a match on television. Television’s dutiful daughter-in-law Lali, aka Ratan Rajput of Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, is looking for her partner on Swayamvar’s third season on Imagine, suggest news reports.

In the first season, Rakhi Sawant got engaged and later dropped her Mr Right. In season two, Rahul Mahajan turned “good” to find Mrs Mahajan No. 2, and didn’t get cold feet like Rakhi and got married on national TV, followed by showdown with the missus a few months later.
Avid followers of the show in the city have mixed opinion. While some believe that Ratan will bring credibility to the show, others feel she lacks the persona to carry the show on her shoulders.
Says Ankur Talwar, communication executive, “Ratan Rajput does not have a strong personality and lacks on-screen appeal. She’s timid, while Rakhi was dramatic, unpredictable, energetic and pretentious. It was fun watching her, I am not sure if Ratan can pull it off as well as Rakhi. I would have preferred to see Dolly Bindra ka doosra swayamvar or even Veena Malik searching for her love on TV.”
Ratan’s simple nature may actually make a difference, believes Manisha Rao, media professional. “Her charm will make the show more credible.”
Ratan was recently asked by a news channel about her appearance on Swayamvar. Neither denying nor acknowledging, Ratan said, “This is news to me as well.”
Priya B., professional, says, “We won’t know how Ratan will be projected on the show. I am sure she has a different side to her.” Recalling an incident, Priya adds, “Ratan was to perform on Dance India Dance in front of the judges, but she was unable to do so because she had high fever. Nevertheless, she came on the show to apologise to the judges and kept saying mujhe maaf kar do. Well, doesn’t this look like a dose of drama to you? we will have to wait and watch.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
