Rejuvenate to glow

After months of daily make-up, hair colour and other chemical treatments it is time to give your hair that all important time to breathe. According to experts, constantly subjecting oneself to chemicals everyday not only accelerates the process of ageing but it can also affect one’s immunity because these chemicals tend to seep into the blood stream and can slowly damage one’s systems.
Experts believe that just like how one needs to detox to cleanse the systems from within, a beauty detox routine will make achieving the natural glow much more easier. Renowned beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain opines, “By the time you get to months like October or November your skin begins to feel weighed down by all the products and treatments that you have used in the past few months. And if you want to look your best during New Year’s Eve then you need to start prepping your skin now.”
While explaining the concept of beauty detox and skin rejuvenation, Ananya Sood, technical head of a premium brand of cosmetics says, “This is not just about completely going off beauty products. Rejuvenation is more about adding health and nourishment to your skin so that it looks great naturally; cosmetics are used just to enhance natural beauty. The skin, like any other organ in the body, needs time to relax and maybe even get a little pampering. One can begin this by going in for deep cleansing treatments and if your skin is particularly itchy or sensitive to breakouts then one may have to go in for micro dermabrasion procedures, etc. These help to remove the dead cells from deep within and leave the skin fresh.” Throwing more light on the concept, she adds, “It helps if one reduces their usage of cosmetics for about 10 days in a year. Just follow a very basic cleansing routine, pamper yourself with facials and massages at this time. When it comes to make-up, stick to the basics — kajal, lip gloss and translucent powder.”
Talking about detox, natural solutions can’t be very far away. “Use products with natural ingredients that have a great effect on the skin. For example, you can use rose water as a toner and this has excellent results too. There are ingredients for specific issues too — like a combination of honey and apricot is great for oily skin and also to control blemishes, curd is good for dandruff control and so on. The positive side of using these products is that there are zero side effects and they also help to restore the skin and hair’s natural balances,” says Shahnaz.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
