Restaurants on buses dish out Delhi-cacies
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has come up with an ambitious proposal of running five double-decker buses with open tops and restaurants on the lower deck in which different cuisines will be offered to international tourists. The idea that foreign tourists will be enjoying the beauty of Delhi, while savouring the best
delicacies in open top double-decker buses has not gone down well with the young brigade. They express concern that dampeners like negotiating the tough traffic, chaos and pollution on city roads might mar the experience.
According to the proposal, each bus will have a separate menu, ranging from continental to Indian. The route for the buses will be designed like a heritage walk, involving a visit to prominent historical monuments in the city.
“The idea in itself is amazing, but how is it going to work in the busy traffic of Delhi? All the major routes to famous destinations like India Gate, Qutub Minar and Red Fort are jam-packed, most parts of the day,” says Shashi Gupta, 19-year-old student.
For Shweta Kohli, 23-year-old student, the idea of enjoying mouth-watering international cuisines from five continents in a not-so-friendly Delhi weather is not a good start. “The weather here is extreme. It’s either sweltering hot or bone-chilling cold. Given that the games are set for October, some regulations for temperature checks should be kept in mind,” she suggests.
The concept of these open top buses sounds much like an improvised version of the already existing Delhi Darshan bus service of Delhi Development Authority.
