Rhymes, rhythms and triumphs
Nearly nude women take the stage. And then some loud music and rapid dance moves. Soon they are under the polythene wraps and men, in three-piece suits, overpower them before the women finally set themselves free.
And they walk away, leaving the men behind wrapped and suffocating in the polythene sheets. And Then, One Thousand Years Of Peace, by choreographer Angelin Prelijocaj, transfixed the audience with the one-hour and 45-minute long contemporary ballet performance at Kamani Auditorium.
Inspired by Bible, the ballet mocked the idea of irrational reading of Apocalypse. “Without dialogues, it’s an abstract act, a man and a woman can perceive it in different ways,” says Angelin. The group of 21 dancers performed the act in collaboration with Bolshoi Theatre and Subodh Gupta.
