The right fix

For all those who plunge into a drastic diet regime to lose weight, here’s a word of caution. Reports in various health journals reveal that extreme diets, including quirky ones like the baby food diet that celebs like Shilpa Shetty, Kareena Kapoor and Jennifer Aniston are known to have followed, will definitely lead to added flab after a year or so. In the past, even actresses like Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha have followed sudden, drastic dieting regimes, which can lead to complications. Experts say that overweight people, ought to be especially cautious, because the weight loss may be just temporary.
There has to be a discipline in your fitness regime as well as goals. Says Satyajit Chaurasia, the celeb fitness trainer known to have trained Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan, “There are several dieting fads that do the rounds. People think that once they lose five kilos after a strict diet, they’ve achieved their fitness goal. It does not mean that the dieting is pointless. However, for the results to show, regular dieting and workouts are a must, especially for those who have a tendency to put on weight easily.” Experts aver that a minimum workout of 30-45 minutes, along with a balanced diet, will yield the best results over a period of three months and say drastic dieting should be avoided.
Says Udaya Kumar, a fitness guru, who is presently actor Vikram’s trainer, “Fresh juices and protein-rich food keep energy levels consistent. For any individual, a balanced diet and workout pattern is a must. At times, when clients approach us with symptoms of extreme starvation, I suggest protein drinks, iron supplements and a minimal workout of cardio and weights.” Nutritionists say models and actors take to sudden diets that lead to complications. “Celebrities are known to experiment with their diets, which might not be advisable for a normal person,” says nutritionist Aparna Tandon. She adds, “It takes time for the body to get accustomed to a particular workout pattern and this has to be complemented with the right diet, more so for those who are looking at losing lots of weight.”
