Run-dezvous with Rannvijay

Actor-host Rannvijay Singh’s life has been action packed and so is his latest venture — the country’s first adventure race for school children to be organised in Gurgaon. During a recent visit to the capital, Rannvijay said that the race is an attempt to distract children from video games and make them play some real sports.

“I used to be very active during my school days. Basketball, cycling, rock climbing, and bike racing were some of my favourite sports. But kids these days are unfortunately not into real sports,” said a rather concerned Rannvijay.
The race, organised by an adventure sports company, Rocksport Adventures, in partnership with Rannvijay, is an opportunity for kids to sweat it out. About 80,000 girls and boys are likely to participate. The final in January will have 20 shortlisted teams competing for prize money worth `5,00,000.
“I have been hosting Roadies for the last eight years. Youngsters on that show don’t come for sports but to become famous. This race is not a platform to gain fame but to show the real sportsperson’s spirit,” he says.
Roadies is an inseparable part of Rannvijay’s life but apart from hosting youth-based reality shows like Stunt Mania and Splitsvilla Rannvijay has made a mark in the film industry as well.
Next he will be seen in Nagesh Kukunoor’s film on boxing. Though his Bollywood career began with Toss, Rannvijay is equally in love with Punjabi films.
He said, “No matter how many Hindi films I do, my friends and relatives always want to know when is my next Punjabi film releasing.”
The last Punjabi film that Rannvijay enjoyed watching was Jatt and Juliet. “Not just films, I am fond of Punjabi music as well. Actually I like all kinds of music, Dubstep is what I have been listening to a lot lately,” he added.
Rannvijay loves to cycle or run to stay fit. “It rained heavily in Mumbai recently, and I cycled around my house for hours. It was a blessing and I hope everyone understands the importance to stay fit and take out time to get involved in physical activities,” he concluded.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
