Sambhavna’s political moves

Motormouth Sambhavna Seth has been away from the limelight for a while but the lady is back to her old antics and how. The latest is that she has performed a song praising an MP. The politician, Raju Shetti who is said to have started out as a marginal farmer in Shirol village in Kolhapur and finally rose to become an MLA, and later an MP, is Sambhavna’s latest muse and she will be seen dancing and singing praises for the MP. It is all a part of a sequence for the film Senani. Shetti himself will be seen as part of the song.

But before you tag it as an item number that has been inserted into a movie only to grab eyeballs, Sambhavna is quick to add, “Mind you, it’s not an item song. The filmmakers have specially thought of this song in praise of Raju Shetti and incorporated it in the film because he’s made a huge difference to the lives of the people of his constituency and they wanted to show that. While shooting with him, I realised that he was a thorough gentleman and the masses there loved him. He deserves the kind of attention that he gets in the song.”
The only other politician that Sambhavna has had a close association with is Sanjay Nirupam who was her housemate of the reality show Bigg Boss. She can’t help but draw comparisons here. Recounting the fun yet grossly controversial days of Bigg Boss, she says, “When we were given tasks on the show, Sanjayji would shy away from most of them saying he cannot sing and dance because of his public image. There is a certain behaviour expected from him, and he cannot let go of it for a television show.”
Little wonder why Sambhavna is so impressed with her new politician-turned co-star then. “Raju Shetti didn’t have to dance in this song, he did not have any other hang-ups either,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
