Sandhu wants author backed roles

He has been entering your living room as Veer Singh Bundela till so recently. But now catch him as Aditya Thakur on the tellyland. For actor Nandish Sandhu has an image makeover to don a new role and a distinct responsibility.

From Uttaran to Phir Subah Hogi, it seems this suave and charming performer has a habit of lapping up plum role on the tube. But what pushed him to agree for this particular stint? “I said yes to this show because its concept is beautiful and is even based on a true story. The plot tackles a sensitive issue. The character-graph is also somewhat different from the ones that I’ve played for the small-screen,” he elaborates.
Whether audience accepts Nandish in Phir Subah Hogi or not, only time will tell. However, it’s cent-per-cent true that it was Uttaran which first shot him to fame. But what prompted him to quit the show so suddenly and that too at a critical juncture? “Well I couldn’t have possibly played a mature, old guy, 45-50 years. I had to be honest here and make a crucial decision to put in my papers,” he sets the record straight.
Having had a brush with the limelight, Nandish presently intends to carve a niche for himself in the industry with a string of author backed roles. And it’s not only positive characters that he wishes to etch out and excel in. The conventionally fair, tall, handsome guy is in fact game to portray a baddie up his sleeve. “Definitely yes. I’m open to play a grey shade, but in a subtle fashion. I’d rather prefer playing a softer, polished villain who wouldn’t be out and out black but slightly tilted towards negativity,” he enlists his choice.
When asked if he would dance or sing in some reality show, Nandish confirms that dance will always be his first priority to pick up. Yes, if his better-half Rashmi (Tapasya of Uttaran) is willing to participate, he won’t hesitate either.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
