The season for singles

Blame it on all those Hollywood endings with the boy kissing the girl as fireworks go off in the night sky. It’s the season for gift-giving, holiday-taking and general coochie-cooing. So, singles could easily feel left out and low in December. However, these single guys aren’t sitting home and sulking. And here’s why:
December is a joyful month, according to actor/ comedian Cyrus Sahukar. “It’s wedding season, party season and there’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so the month is full of festivities,” he says. “As the year comes to a close, everyone’s looking forward to a fresh start. Basically it’s heaven for the single guy because you get to meet more new people than any other time of the year!”
A party provides the perfect opportunity to hook up with someone, agrees model Zainn. “December is chockablock with parties because the best bashes are thrown at the end of the year. So singles definitely have a very different agenda this month compared to guys who are already married or in a relationship.”
Even those looking for something more, believe this is their best chance. “It’s the time when you expect to meet someone special and hopefully start the new year with them,” says racer Rohit Giri. “My only complaint is the ‘girls and couples only’ parties. If there are no stags allowed, how are the girls going to meet their someone special,” he jokes. But girls aside, he says, it’s the perfect time for a trip with friends. “It’s the off season and everyone is free so I’m planning a holiday. And when it comes to partying, anyway, house parties are the best.”
Whether they’re looking to get lucky or find the one, guys agree, the best way to do it is to go out and party. “It’s a season for celebrations and the more, the merrier,” says DJ Navdeep Ahuja. No matter which way it goes, singles end the year with a bang.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
