A second date with life
Salman Khan did not need a side business, still he picked up the brush and started painting besides coming up with his own clothes brand. Yesteryears actress Sridevi, who recently made a comeback, auctioned her paintings at Christie’s when she was on a sabbatical.
Designer JJ Valaya is famous for his keen interest in photography, and model Fleur Xavier has taken up interior designing after scaling the peak of her modelling career. Despite being successful in their chosen career, many people have alternate interests.
Recently, Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore declared she would want to become a travel writer some day. “I want to do it all. I love films, but I also love wine, food and travel. I would love to be a travel writer. I’d be so stoked,” contactmusic.com quoted Barrymore as saying.
Boxer Vijender Singh after tasting international success tried his hand in the entertainment industry. “Boxing made me famous and I was never bored of my sport even once, but I wanted to explore more. Entertainment industry was one of the options. Had I not been a boxer, I would have joined the army years ago. Army has always been a fascination among the youth of Haryana and its disciplined and adventurous life has always attracted me. Given a chance, I will still join the forces,” says Vijender, who wants to keep trying different careers.
The way writer Chetan Bhagat quit his job as an investment banker to follow his dream to become an author, Delhi-based artist Niladri Paul turned into a painter when he realised he did not want to be an advertising professional. “I was at a very good position in my company and was drawing a good salary but I was not happy. I wanted to work for myself and do something creative. Painting was a dream job. I wasted no time in changing the field,” says Niladari as he adds that he feels totally satisfied now. “I am doing what I wanted to do. I consciously followed my dream job and gave it my 100 per cent.”
Still new in her field, actress Shazahn Padamsee dreams to follow her parents’ footsteps. “If not Bollywood, I would have started an event management company or taken up theatre just like my parents. Thinking of doing that right now will be too early as it’s just been three years in Bollywood,” says Shazahn.
Singer and actor Karan Oberoi is living his dream of becoming an entrepreneur. “I had always wanted to start a platform for budding singers and I am doing it at present. When I was struggling in Mumbai, I decided to give a chance to others and I am in a position to fulfill that dream now,” says Karan.
