Shah Rukh on an ‘express ride’

There is something about Shah Rukh Khan — firstly Delhiites can never get enough of him and secondly, he can never get enough of Delhi!
On every visit he’s made to the national capital in the recent past, he’s spoken fondly of his days here. And now when he came to Delhi again to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Carrera, a timepiece from TAG Heuer at The Grand Hotel, Vasant Kunj, he again confessed how fond he is of the city. “I love being here,” said the star of recently released Chennai Express, which has become the fastest `100 crore earner.
The three-hour-long wait was not a problem for the crowd that cheered the moment the star looking suave in a black tuxedo stepped onto the stage. Keeping the introduction informal, the star spoke at length about his association with the watch brand, the experiences (including polo) he gained with this association, the two watches on his hands (because the French love to gift him two) and the Delhi crowd. Accepting wishes from his Delhi fans, Shah Rukh perked up a bit when praise for Chennai Express came his way. “I am extremely happy that a lot of families and kids are liking this film. I would like to thank Deepika (Padukone) and Rohit (Shetty) for this family film. I have not seen it myself, but will go to watch it once I get a little time,” he said.
Generally it is the media who do the talking; here the scene was a bit different as the guests took the chance to express their feelings for the undisputed badshaah of Bollywood. “I don’t have a question to ask, but I want to tell you that I am your biggest fan and I love you. Can I come and hug you?” said a teenager who could not contain her excitement at seeing her favourite actor in person. However, the witty actor declined the proposal politely saying, “All the hugs are backstage and I wish all the journalists and people will not ask me this question”.
Shah Rukh led a convoy of 50 vintage cars through South Delhi after posing for pictures with a yellow convertible. Well before he could head to the car designated for him, the crowd had already descended on other vehicles, notably the ones closest to the star’s.
“We want to follow him closely, and see him as close as we can. I have my family — my son, daughter-in-law and our little granddaughter — all waiting to get clicked with him. And driving in these vintage classics will be so much fun,” said Kishore Dayal, one of the guests.
Later, as he got into the car with another guest, SRK tweeted, “Now have to wear two watches to keep track of life...with Tag Heuer family. now a vintage car ride...Express ride! Its been a while since i rode the roads of delhi in an open top ride. Whirlwind stuff with a strange sense of calm.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
