Shraddha’s baby steps

Petite, demure and full of life, Shraddha Kapoor is the new kid on the block. Her lineage might increase the pressure of expectations but Shakti Kapoor’s daughter and Padmini Kolhapure’s niece is unperturbed. “Challenges and expectations are a big high,” she smiles. “My father has done a variety of roles. He was lucky that he got that opportunity. I hope I’m as lucky.”

Father Shakti Kapoor has been working in films for three decades, which kept him away from home and family. Since Shraddha spent more time with her mother Shivangi, do they bond better? “Definitely, I’m closer to my mother. She is my friend and confidante. When my brother Siddharth and I were growing up, my father was extremely busy with work. He would be away for months. But he’d make it a point to check on our academics and what we were up to.”
The actress, who is gearing up to re-start her career with Aashiqui 2, says that she takes her parents into confidence before she signs a new film. “Earlier I had deadlines to follow. I had to be home at a certain time and not to mention the innumerable phone calls from both of them. But now they know that I’m busy with work, hence they’ve eased up a bit,” she laughs.
Shraddha is working with the best of filmmakers from Mahesh Bhatt to Karan Johar. “I have a long way to go. I respect the fact that the bigwigs of the industry are confident that I have the potential to make it big. But I’d rather take small and steady steps,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
