Sidney’s latest line debuts in New York
Designer, Sidney S. Sladen, who is known for designing clothes for beauty pageants and movies like Chandramukhi, has sent his most recent collection of clothes to New York.
The designer says cheerfully, “My latest line of clothes, which has gone to New York, will be retailed there. In the fashion industry, New York is considered a very difficult market to break into, the second most difficult after Paris, and I am really pleased and happy to be retailing my collection there with a clientele of international artistes like Rihanna and Beyonce, among others.”
Speaking a bit about his collection, he tells us, “It is more of a trans-seasonal line, which implies that it will be wearable throughout the year. The clothes have a military look, blended with a bit of an abstract trend. They are free flowing, but very well structured at the same time, similar to jumpsuits. The military look is adorned with embroidery on the shoulders.”
When asked about the Indian angle to his collection, he explains, “I have used a lot of tie-and-dye and bandhini to bring an Indian touch to my clothes. I have also brought in some zardozi and threadwork to interweave the South Indian influence. My collection consists of a majority of cocktail dresses and only a couple of tunics. The collection also has a line of black dresses called the ‘Rock Star Dress’, which are essentially a variety of cocktail dresses.” As for his future plans, he says, “I am coming out with a winter collection for retailing in New York around August or September. We are also looking at having a show around September for the winter collection.”
