Slow and steady Chitra
She never followed the beaten track in Hindi cinema, but no one complained after the rave reviews she earned for her debut act in Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi. In a day and age when actresses lose no time in taking digs at each other, Chitrangada remains more of a free soul who likes to stay aloof from the politics of the industry. And she seems very comfortably poised in her career with a host of new releases coming up, starting with Yeh Saali Zindagi.
She set out to be an airhostess but three back-to-back rejections and a strange twist in fate landed her in Bollywood. “I had no plans of becoming an actress, but I was pursuing modelling at that time and had worked on a few music videos as well. I was working with a production manager who was also helping Sudhir Mishra with the auditions for Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi. I was flying out for a modelling assignment but I missed the flight. And the next thing I know is I am at the auditions for Sudhir’s film,” said the actress, who was still not sure of getting the part even after four auditions. There were many rumours about her Bollywood career creating trouble in her marriage, but she rubbishes them saying, “Not many know that I was already married when I entered Bollywood. And I’ve known my husband since childhood; he was my brother’s friend. There’s a great level of comfort that we share in the relationship.”
