Soccer-istic names on menus lure FIFA fans

It’s seems like the FIFA fever is huge among Indian fans. So much so, that restaurants have come up with interesting menus to satiate your hunger, for both—soccer, and good food. We asked chefs in the capital, what they have in store for all the soccer fans here.
Chef Kushal from Pepper says, “We have taken a list of the menu from football terminology. We have dishes like Striker Prawn and Roulet Goalkeeper to keep up the spirit of the soccer month. Striker Prawn has been named appropriately as prawns give all of us a kick, don’t they? The idea is to keep fun names so that people enjoy the game while eating.”
Then there are some who have not just dished out exotic flavours from football terminology, but have also taken up funny names to add to the spice of the game.
“These names of dishes, from the menu are derived from football terminology and we have picked up selected names, which are out-of-the-box and on the funnier side, but they obviously match and go well with the cuisine. The idea is to make people connect with the game and relish the food with a sporty feeling. For example, Kick Returner Spicy Hot dog is one of our dishes. It is named after ‘Return kickoffs’ from soccer, and we have Spicy Hot dogs to give that kick,” says chef Sachin Sahgal at Tivoli Garden Hotel.
Not just that some have also come up with interesting cocktail menus to give soccer lovers a feel of the game. In fact Blanco is offering food platter from FIFA special countries with special dishes like Messi’s Mission from Argentina and Torres Spanish samba (tapas platter) from Spain.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
