‘Soha is my best friend’

After having recuperated from the Saif-Kareena wedding mania, Soha Ali Khan and beau Kunal Khemu looked fresh on their recent visit to the capital. The couple, very much in love, loves visiting Delhi for different reasons.
“My family is here so I like spending time with them,” says Soha while Kunal adds, “I love the Delhi weather. It’s a tale of two extremes — chilly and hot.”

Steering clear of the most hackneyed question for a dating couple i.e. marriage plans, Kunal says, “I definitely believe in the concept of marriage, but now is not the right time to talk about it.”
On the career front, Soha is excited about her upcoming films — Sahib Biwi aur Gangster Returns, Chaarfutiya Chhokare and Midnight’s Children. “It is the first time that I am doing a sequel. We have also wrapped up Chaarfutiya Chhokare, which is a fast-paced film packed with action and intrigue.”
In Midnight’s Children, Soha plays Jamila, the lead character’s sister. She says, “Salman Rushdie is a maverick. I play a singer in the film and am quite happy to have been picked for the role.”
Kunal, who although not shooting every day, is at a happy stage in life. He recently visited his native place Jammu after a gap of nine years. “I was in Jammu to celebrate my grandparents’ 60th year of wedded bliss,” he informs.
Kunal tells us that he is not a genre-savvy but a script-savvy actor. He is reading scripts and he will sign only after he is through with his pending films. His future projects include Vikram Bhatt’s Bhaag Johnny and Go Goa Gone which also stars Saif Ali Khan. While he is yet to sign Golmaal 4, he could be doing another film with the Bhatts.
Kunal did theatre for six years during his graduation days before resurfacing on the big screen and is a sucker for American television. You name a season and he has seen it for no particular reason. “I am addicted to The Office. I also watch Two and a Half Men. But it’s not the same without Charlie Sheen. However, Charlie’s latest — Anger Management — is no fun either.”
Unfazed by the debacle of Blood Money, he says, “Everybody has their share of good and bad films. So it’s no different with me.”
His relationship with Soha is beautiful and comforting, he says, “Soha is my best friend. We have similar tastes and she is somebody I discuss a lot of things with. I am at ease with her.”
Talking about his chemistry with Saif, he says, “Saif is very charming, entertaining and knowledgeable. We get along well. And though we both are in the same profession, we mostly talk about things other than acting.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
