A song to salute spirit of nation
Music has always had its way of strumming the chords of the hearts of youngsters. And when you’re paying a tribute to your country, there’s no better way than to dedicate a song. This is precisely why Shadow, a band that recently won four awards in various categories at the IndieGo Awards 2012, has come up with a song dedicated to the spirit of the country, especially Delhi.
“The song is basically about Delhi’s competence and its spirit in welcoming change over the last few years,” says Vineet Malhotra from the band.
Of what took three days to finalise the song titled Gold, is to salute Delhi as the gold of India. “A country’s financial state is gauged by the amount of gold it has and also gold is the highest accolade for any accomplishment. Delhi to me is the Gold of India. It’s rare, precious, survived its share of heat and is shinning bright,” says Vineet.
While finalising the music, the band preferred to keep the beats catchy and uplifting. “We wanted a song that was uplifting and catchy at the same time so we did a bit of fusion in it with English lyrics and Hindi poetry. Also we spiced up the feel by mixing it with sitar,” adds Vineet.
Well, the city has heard various melodies composed, and written keeping the patriotic spirit in mind. So what makes this one different?
“This song is in both English and Hindi. It’s a classic fusion of Indian music with western rhythm. And what is more important is that this song was selected by the Common Wealth Organising Committee to be the official song for the Mascot Shera during the event,” he says.
With the nation’s pulse beating with songs on corruption, this band plans to take the tempos high by addressing various issues relevant to the country’s future. Vineet concludes by saying, “I feel songs can be made on the state of the girl child in India. It shocks me as to why such a topic has not been polarised into a song and those like Kolaveri D hog the limelight.”
