Standing tall and slender in a mint green pant suit, actress Sonal Chauhan has a warm vibe to her. Running slightly late owing to a delayed flight, she decides to grab a quick bite, while talking to the press. Sonal’s film, 3G released recently, with which she makes her singing debut. The svelte actress talks about her musical foray.

“Whenever I was on the sets getting ready for a shot, I used to sing my favourite numbers. My director noticed that and told me that I sing pretty decently and should consider it seriously for the movie. So as the love duet Kaise Kahoon came up, composer Mithoon convinced me to sing along with him,” says the young actress. She has received positive responses from the industry, audience and the song has made an entry into all music charts.
How was the entire experience of recording the song? “Initially, I was all gung-ho about it. But when I entered the recording studio, I was nervous as I realised that serious business was going on. Infact, I was thinking of giving up the idea but Mithoon convinced me that I should just give it a shot and if it didn’t sound good, he could chuck it. I took it up as a challenge,” she recalls. Thankfully, she adds, the song turned out quite well.
Sonal feels that she has found her calling in music. “I am not trained in music but I love listening to all kinds of music and singing. But with the kind of response I am getting for my song, I feel I should take it up seriously. Infact, it would be great if I can spare 2-3 hours in the day learning and practising it,” she smiles.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
