Songs of peace in age of strife
The recent Assam riots left many fuming over the way things were handled by the government. But a young singer Alo Wanth from Nagaland looks at things differently. The singer, who was in the capital recently for a peace concert in aid of the recent riots, says that unity among people can change things.
Through the concert, Wanth wanted to tell people about how people from the Northeast region are peace loving. “I have always wanted to connect with people in the country through music. This concert has brought me closer to my dreams,” says Wanth, who thinks that music can cut across class, caste, region, religion and unite people against all odds.
He believes music has always been a uniting force for the country. “A small example is of singer Atif Aslam, a Pakistani singer, who is loved by all Indians,” he says.
Songs like Heal the world, Where is the love by Black Eye Peas that became a weapon to bridge many differences, has inspired Wanth as well. His song Change talks about how we forget that the real change starts from each individual. Justice is about how people have got used to injustice and have lost their faith in justice.
