Sounds of Africa-ah!
It was an evening filled with mesmerising music and dance at Siri Fort Auditorium. On May 25, Delhiites came together to celebrate Africa Day. Presented by theIdeaWorks, managing partner of ‘INDIAFRICA: A Shared Future,’ an initiative supported by the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, it aimed at building bridges between African and Indian youth and entrepreneurs.
While Delhi-based fusion band, Indian Ocean, regaled the audience with their popular soulful hits, the African groups, Horn of Africa, presented a kaleidoscopic view of African culture through their dance and music. It was followed by Rio Des Djika, a band from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Slumgods, the hip hop collective captivated the audience with an amazing display of talent.
Speaking on the occasion, Navdeep Suri, joint secretary, ministry external affairs, underlining the idea behind the initiative said, “Around 70% of the population in Africa today is below the age of 35. With similar statistics in India, promoting engagement between youth in Africa and India is imperative to pave the way for a shared future.”
