Southern spice and all things nice

He isn’t the Badshah of Bollywood for no reason. He can still charm almost an entire city with his witty remarks, indomitable style and dimpled smile. When Shah Rukh Khan came to Gurgaon recently with his co-actor, Deepika Padukone, of upcoming Chennai Express and director Rohit Shetty, there was a large turnout at the Ambience Mall eager for a glimpse of the actor performing at the atrium on the songs from the movie and cracking a few jokes in between. People started gathering and “reserving a space” near the railings to get a full view of the actor’s performance since 2 pm, while the actor only came after six in the evening.
However, the wait wasn’t in vain as SRK made sure to keep everyone entertained throughout the evening, even though he wasn’t “too fit”. Before the performance, while addressing the media during the press conference, the actor mentioned that he is not keeping roza regularly as his shoulder pain is still bothering him and he is on medication. “On days like today which is extensively busy, I skip roza,” he said.
He managed to keep everybody in splits throughout the press conference too. He remembered his old days spent in Delhi and thanked the people for the warm welcome. The way he fascinated the crowd, it seemed he continues to fascinate Deepika as much as during their first movie Om Shaanti Om. She looked completely smitten by the actor’s charm.
When SRK looked a little hassled handling the bouquet of flowers that he was given by the hosts, the mic and answering the questions, Deepika unobtrusively took the bouquet from him. At one point, when someone from the public asked her to give a kiss to SRK as a token of his appreciation for her, without any hesitance, she promptly remarked, “I kiss him every day. That’s old. I guess he has everything in his life. The only thing I can give him is love and happiness.”
SRK, on his part, was as modest as he could have been while talking about Dippy. He said she is the most beautiful lady in the entire world and one of the best actors. “She is the soul of Chennai Express,” he said.
However, talking about the film, he said that he finds the combination of the North and South really interesting. He finds it really romantic when a couple talks in two different languages. “My parents spoke two different languages and I found it really fascinating,” he said.
His experiences of shooting in the southern cities like Rameshwarm and Chennai was “truly amazing”. “It was a really good experience. The food was a delight. Travelling from one place to another was a little difficult but the love that they showered upon us made us forget all that,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
