Split decision?
“Should I break up with my boyfriend?” is a new iPhone app designed by Chicago-based programmer Sarah Gray. It asks the girlfriends to rate and record their feelings for their guy on a daily basis and then provides an objective answer to the question.
But would there be many takers for such an app and do youngsters think it’s a clever idea or just time-pass? We find out.
“It’s stupid,”agrees IT professional Nitin Kumar “How can you let some app decide for you. It oversimplifies the situation. Say you’re going through a tough phase in your relationship, the app is going to record poor ratings and tell you to break up. Or, if you’re going through the honeymoon phase, it will tell you to stick with your guy or girl even if they may not be right for you.” A simple daily poll is no way to make such a big decision, he adds.
It’s a big no from the ladies as well, as model Rishma Shetty points out, “There’s an app for everything these days and sure, something like this might catch your eye but I don’t think you should take it too seriously. It’s just like how people like to take quizzes in magazines and evaluate their relationships. But, you shouldn’t be taking advice from your friends, much less an app, about whether to stay with someone or break up. In the end you know your man best and only you can make the decision.”
According to author Geetanjali Jha, the app may find takers only for the fun factor. She says, “Most people of our generation are gadget freaks and something like this has great novelty value so people may try it just for the heck of it. But I don’t think there will be too many serious users.” Instead of recording your feelings on a gadget, she says, “Talk to your better half and figure out how you feel. It’s so much more constructive than turning to a phone
application.”
