Stand-up comics kick off a laugh riot
Stand-up comedians are pulling the crowd away from multiplexes to spaces dedicated for stand-up shows. Recently Café Ludus and Geliophobic Night organised a two-day laughter marathon with city-based stand-up comedians — Ashish Shakya, Nishant ‘Joke’ Singh and Rohan Joshi.
Ashish, who is also a freelance writer, with his incisive observations about the idiosyncrasies of people — be it in the field of politics, entertainment or pop culture received oodles of accolades. Delhi-based comedian Rohan Joshi belongs to the new breed of witty entertainers. This half-Gujarati, half-Maharashtrian lad likes to poke fun at his community. “I like to joke about my family, relationships, and everyday observations about the youth. The best part of our profession is that we don’t have to wear those drab shirts with creased pants. We chill around in our boxers and are like a batman, who puts on his chaddi (underwear) only when he has to exhibit his skills,” quipped Rohan.
Stand-up shows have huge cultural resonance. “Since we perform in Delhi, we obviously have ‘butter-chicken’ jokes and other hilarious instances to connect with the masses,” said Ashish.
