Stark style statement
Kim Kardashian and her half sister Kylie Jenner looked stunning, while reality star Kelly Osbourne looked killer at the recent Golden Globe Awards. Our very own Sonam Kapoor was the talk of the fashion world when she donned these colours for the Cannes red carpet. Black and white, the classic colours from the days of Breakfast at Tiffany’s are back in vogue.
Everyone seems to be going crazy over this gorgeous combination. “Black and white are the safest colours. Every woman must have these colours in her wardrobe,” says Michelle Salins, fashion designer. “It strikes a balance between the feminine and masculine nature and brings out the boldness of a person,” adds Salins who also says that if the wearer is not careful, then it can go terribly wrong. “Sometimes too much of it can become a street style statement,” adds Salins.
Agreeing with the designer is actor Samyuktha Hornad, who wonders why Vidya Balan had to flaunt these colours in Kismat Konnection, when it obviously was not working. “Black leggings and white shirt with black waist coat — everything that could go wrong went wrong,” says Hornad who also has her favourite onscreen divas in black-white combinations. “Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe could make these colours look elegant,” she adds.
Whether it was at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Versace’s Fall-Winter Collection or the red carpet events, these two colours have caught the attention of many a celebrity.
