Stealing hearts with love

One is known for his flirtatious nature and the other for being vocal about her thoughts. When they both — actors Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha — were in the capital recently to promote their film Lootera, the sizzling chemistry between the two couldn’t be ignored.

In a playful mood, they pulled each other’s leg, narrated their experiences from the sets and the fun they had working together and even sought the other’s consent before replying when a serious question was posed to them. There was banter and appreciation at the same time. The comfort level they shared was apparent. And after all this, it wasn’t a surprise when they rescued each other every time they were asked personal questions.
Well aware of his playful nature, the emcee started flirting with Ranveer and when he responded with the same vigour, nothing but a volley of personal questions came to him — from checking his relationship status to asking about his plans for the night. At a point, the emcee says, “Suna hai aajkal aap flirt bahut zyada kar rahe hain!” and before he said something, Sonakshi jumped to save her “best pal”, “Aaj shuruaat toh aapne ki…,” leaving everybody in splits.
Not that Ranveer would let Sonakshi face the questions all on her own. When she was asked one of the most common questions put to her — about her curvaceous figure and her reluctance to join the size zero league — the two actors looked at each other as if having a silent conversation that said, “See, I told you this question will come up for sure.” But she answered that with the same ease as she answered other questions about her film.
However, the grilling didn’t stop there. Somebody had issues with her doing “almost similar roles” that of a traditional-Indian-coy-girl-in-a-sari in all the movies she has done so far. “Will we ever see her in a glamorous avatar?” she was asked. And there he was, answering for her, “Ye aapko abhi kam glamorous lag rahi hain? Iss se zyada glamorous kise kehte hain?” and Sonakshi didn’t sit quiet either. She checked if by glamorous roles, the person meant short clothes and then said, “Main kapdon ka size dekhkar film nahi karti hoon.”
The link-up rumours between the actors fizzled out long ago, but at the recent promotional trips for the movie, they made sure to let people know that they share a much stronger bond than any romantic connection and respect for each other.
Both the actors debuted in the same year, in 2010, with different films and both of them even swept away all the awards for their powerful debut performances in their respective films.
Ranveer says that he wanted to work with Sonakshi since that time. “I really liked her performance. We had to eventually work together. It has happened sooner than later. As an actor, we two are very different from each other and thus have learned a lot while working on this film. Personally, I have learned many things from Sonakshi,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
